Many of our readers will be heading out for a family vacation or just a day at the beach this summer. If possible, call Tom at Tysons Auto at 703-893-1860 and schedule a trip check before you leave town.

Traveling when the temperatures soar can be hard on your car. Here are some good tips for summer travel.

  1. Be sure your tires are properly inflated. Improper inflation can cause overheating and tire failure.
  2. Check to be sure you have the proper levels of coolant, oil, as well as power steering and brake fluids.
  3. Check for good airflow from all your vents with the air conditioning running. Watch for a visible vapor mist coming out of the vents, which could signal a low refrigerant level.
  4. Be sure to take a summer safety kit with you, including:
    • Drinking water
    • Flashlight
    • Sun block
    • Insect repellent
    • Tissues
  5. If possible, keep a gallon of coolant, a gallon of washer fluid and 2 quarts of motor oil in your trunk.
