A Specialist in Finely Made Window Treatments and More…

Janell Kincaid will keep you – or at least your home – in stitches. I couldn’t resist using a horrible pun to begin this spotlight article. With that out of my system, let’s take a look at this great home services company.

Window Accents is a custom window treatment fabricator that is committed to doing a job right – the first time, every time, while making the experience a positive one for her clients. They make any and all window treatments for the interior of your home or offices.

They also provide installation services for these products and can supply hard treatments, blinds, shutters etc. In addition to working with windows, custom bedding and accessory products are a couple of their additional offerings.

As with many other business professionals, Janell didn’t plan on entering her current occupation. Thanks to a strange misdirection in the men’s fashion industry, she changed course.

“I originally started out in men’s tailoring,” she stated, “but at that time leisure suits were the big thing and it was hard to get a tailor to apprentice with. We had family friends who were getting out of the drapery workroom business and they taught me how to make fine highly custom window treatments.

“I learned quickly that just because I could sew and do tailoring, making drapery and window products required a different kind of sewing as the fabrics had to be treated differently. The techniques were very different.

“Like tailoring, however, the fine detail work – the unseen work that makes the difference between custom and commercial – is what I enjoyed. It was also a business I could do from home and be with my children. They were very young at the time, so it was important for me to be with them.”

And what does she think sets her work apart?

“My desire and ability to pay attention to fine details,” she explained, “to provide the customer with something that will make their home their own; to help in give homes some peaceful surroundings.”

During her 34 years of working in this field, Janell has also enjoyed the people she met along the way. “I like people and each person has something unique that they offer and I learn from. I look forward to what they share sometimes not knowing that what they added to someone else’s life made a difference.”

Born and raised in Green River, Wyoming, she and her husband, Ross, have lived in Northern Virginia for the past 24 years. They have three grown children.

In addition to spending time with her family, Janell’s greatest free-time interest is Illumination Calligraphy. She hopes to continually learn and master the art.

This is the same approach she has used over the years in mastering the creation of window treatments. “It’s the college of hard knocks,” she offered. “Actually, I have been fortunate to work with people willing to share their experiences and knowledge. I continue to learn every day.

“I love what I do. My desire is to provide finely made window treatments with no compromise on quality that meet or exceed my client’s expectations.”

A few months ago Janell met Tom Ivey, of Tysons Auto Specialties, through Business Networking International (BNI). From what she’s learned about him, Tom is going to become her mechanic of choice.

“I trust him,” she said. “Tom effectively and personally communicates his best interest in his customers.”

So what does Janell see for her future and for her company, Window Accents?

“To continue to learn all that I can and improve in my abilities. I want to serve in every capacity where I am called on, whether I have done something or not.

“No matter the challenge, I will try. I don’t like to be told something can’t be done, I will try. I guess I’ll keep sewing until I can’t anymore.”
